RESTORATIVE YOGA AND GONGS

RESTORATIVE YOGA AND GONGS

We begin the session with some gentle Restorative yoga. You do not need to have done any yoga in the past as the beauty of this practice is that it does not require us to contract our muscles. During a Restorative yoga sequence, we stretch, but we are encouraged to relax fully in the stretch with the aid of the props so that we can release tension and focus on the breath.

Restorative yoga has many benefits including: relaxes the body, stilling the mind, releasing muscular tension, improving mobility and flexibility, balancing the nervous system and boosting the immune system.

We will stay a little longer in Savasana, so we can feel the weight of the body dropping and this allows the mind to follow. Our mind needs to be encouraged to be less active and sometimes when we have this intention it just seems to become busier as it concentrates in becoming still so lying in a relaxed state we can begin to swim around in a calm body, quiet mind and easy heart.

We follow with a gong bath and because the body is so open and relaxed, there is a deeper drop into total relaxation. This is when we begin to rebalance and harmonise both body and mind and provide the best environment for our bodies to heal and release.

WINTER SOLSTICE ALL NIGHT GONG PUJA
Dec

to Dec 21

WINTER SOLSTICE ALL NIGHT GONG PUJA

We celebrate the winter solstice on Friday, 20th December.

WINTER SOLSTICE is a time of shortest day and longest night in the Northern Hemisphere and is a Festival of Rebirth, a time of Return of The Sun.

The actual moment of the solstice will occur at 09.19am. on 21st December

The puja is an opportunity to drop into ourselves and to surrender to the guidance of our inner wisdom, to rest and perhaps enter a lucid dreaming state. This evening will start with setting intention before settling down for the night after an opening ceremony at around 11pm. Mats, bolsters, blankets and cushions will be provided but if you have a camping mattress or anything similar, it may be an idea to bring it to provide extra padding.

The gong bath finishes at 7am -7.30am on 21st. We then have a period of silence when we become acutely aware of stillness both outside and within. We gather around the fire for a short time. A cooked breakfast is provided after this and you will leave fully restored and refreshed and brimming with vim! We are restricting the numbers to 16.

WHAT IS A GONG PUJA?

According to grand gong master Don Conreaux, Tim and my teacher, a Gong Puja is a devotional ritual which honours and allows space for participants to heal in mind, body and spirit. Typically, it lasts the duration of 10 sessions of 45 minute gong baths, which is 7.5 hours. The gong, in itself, facilitates self-healing. It helps us get into a place of divine connection.

BENEFITS OF A GOPNG PUJA

During a gong puja, you reap the benefits of a regular gong bath tenfold. Immersing in the sound vibrations of a gong can create opportunities to repair, rebuild, unlock and unblock. It helps to release mental, emotional and physical issues. As we hover in a theta state of deep restfulness and mental awareness, you may experience a deep sense of peace and well-being. A gong puja can increase one's energy and vitality. Participants have reported waking up refreshed and ready to face the day even if they did not sleep through the night.

UN World Peace Day Meditation and Gong Bath

This is a donation event. All donations will go to Encircles, a charity for the homeless in Salisbury that provides food in the evening 365 days of the year and a Sunday roast lunch every week for any homeless people who wish to come.

This 2 hour extended gong bath will begin with a guided meditation with crystal bowls, followed by a short fire ceremony and then a one hour gong bath. Afterwards we offer refreshments and an opportunity to socialise around the fire if the weather is fine or in the house.

On this day many gong practitioners around the world are hosting their own events for world peace to coincide with the UN World Peace Day and we share in this theme and aspiration.

Extended Easter Gong Bath

THIS IS NOW FULL. A MORNING HOUR LONG GONG BATH HAS BEEN ADDED.

Join us for an extended gong bath where we will be exploring the theme of death and rebirth. Another Pluto gong will be added to our resident Pluto gong. Pluto is the planet of death, rebirth, regeneration, transformation and renewal so this marries perfectly with both ancient Spring festivals and Easter symbolism. In the first hour, we will explore these themes and see how they personally resonate with regards to setting intentions for the forthcoming months. Expect some gentle movement, reflection and guided meditation. This will prepare both body and mind for the optimal receiving of the gong.

Afterwards, there will be a fire and an opportunity to share experiences with a hot drink and a chocolate Brownie. £23

RESTORATIVE YOGA AND GONGS

RESTORATIVE YOGA AND GONGS

These monthly sessions begin with a restorative yoga session. You do not need to have any yoga experience. The session involves lying down on the mat using the prop of the bolster and perhaps a strap. This deeply relaxing and beneficial practice begins to slow breathing down and opens the body through passive stretching. Every pose is supported - this is a time to listen and to drop into your body and adapt the position you are in so that it is comfortable to be in for 4-5 minutes. During the long holds of restorative yoga, muscles begin to let go of tension and stretch and so the props, rather than the muscles, are used to support the body.

The gong is a form of sound healing. Every person’s body has its own natural frequency , this can be thrown off balance by stress , illness and other factors. The gong creates a vibration which activates the parasympathetic nervous system , which helps to calm down and soothe the over stimulated sympathetic nervous system. During the restorative session, drop into the weight of your bones and find the rhythm of your natural breath, feel the support of the earth beneath you and completely let go. This restorative practice invites you to calm and still the mind, using gravity and your consciousness to relax every single organ and cell in your body.

Benefits of these monthly extended gong bath: Enhances flexibility and helps to deeply relax the body. Through restorative yoga, a deep state of relaxation is reached that helps improve capacity for healing and balance the nervous system and the immune system. The vibration created by the gong brings about an inner stillness where deep healing can occur . Let the magic of a restorative yoga practice before the gongs allow the vibrations of the gongs to wash over you and pass through you, taking you on a journey of relaxation and transformation. We develop qualities of compassion and understanding towards others and ourselves. A wonderful way to enhance mood and a guaranteed good night’s sleep.

This is an optimum state in which to enter a gong bath. It isn’t always possible to have this degree of preparation and hence the extended gong bath is offered once a month. £20/session

MONTHLY CRYSTAL BOWL SOUND IMMERSION
Jun
19
7:00 PM19:00

MONTHLY CRYSTAL BOWL SOUND IMMERSION

These are held monthly and start with a short guided meditation followed by deep relaxation. The whole session is done lying on the mat supported by a poster and with a cushion and blanket. Here we can sink into feeling of surrender. Using a large collection of different sized bowls, each with a unique frequency, the mind begins to quieten allowing us to fully relax and let go. These beautiful instruments are both ethereal and blissful and allow the mind to quieten and expand. There will be other instruments including flute, Tibetan bowls and some chimes. There will be some singing by Tim.

When we deeply relax, the Parasympathetic nervous system is activated and this is our repair and renew system.  It brings the body into balance by releasing the neurotransmitter acetylcholine which lowers the heart rate, helps with digestion, boost immunity, enhances breathing, and helps in detoxification.

For healing to occur, the body needs to be in the Parasympathetic state.

Naturally, during any given day, our bodies go in and out of these two systems.  The key is to encourage the body into the parasympathetic state as often and as long as possible. A crystal bowl sound bath can access this system effectively and quickly as the sound waves entrain the brain into those states associated with deep meditation practice. This brings the body into harmony.

7th, 14th, 21st NOVEMBER (28th Nov: Restorative Yoga and Gongs separate listing).

5th, 12th 19th and 26th SDECEMBER

The Gong Baths run every Sunday and are a beneficial and effective ways to relax, round off the weekend, prepare for the coming week and reach a sense of calm. I encourage people to leave there worries and cares at the door and to focus on themselves, allowing tension to dissipate as they relax into the mat. Gong baths are particularly helpful in dealing with anxiety and can lead to a profound experience. This is often this is difficult to describe without sounding slightly mad! However there is scientific and metaphysical evidence in support of this ancient healing practice.

In the August/September listing I have mentioned what happens to our nervous system during a gong bath. The current opinion of the scientific community is that the use of sound is a valuable tool in the treatment of many conditions, ailments and diseases.

Everything around us is vibrating at a frequency, whether we hear it or not (wifi and all those gadgets we love give off a frequency too).

Bathing in the vibration of the gongs, a sea of sound is created that washes over the body and is very relaxing. In this state we activate the parasympathetic nervous system which balances and calms the over-amped, over-taxed sympathetic nervous .

Humans are approximately 70 percent water and water serves to conduct sound waves. These ripples gently reverberate over, around and through the entire body to calm, relax and soothe. The best way I can describe it is being in a sound balm or a sound massage. Most peoples' heart rate slows, their blood pressure drops and breath is restored to its natural rhythm. The gong induces a holistic resonance in the body and a spontaneous meditative state in the mind, resulting in a sense of expanded awareness and wholeness. This is both restorative and healing. It is just what our bodies need.

Sessions are £15.

There are refreshments afterwards. The underfloor heating is on to ensure that you are warm throughout the session and the 7pm sessions will be in candlelight.

AUG./SEPT. GONG BATHS 11am & 7pm

THERE ARE TWO GONG BATHS EVERY SUNDAY - 11am and 7pm

SEPTEMBER: 5th, 12th and 26th NO GONG BATHS ON 19th

AUGUST: 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th

The 7pm session on 26th is Restorative Yoga and Gongs - separate entry.

Gong baths are becoming increasingly popular everywhere as many people are looking for ways to relax and reach a sense of calm in the current situation. Gong baths are especially helpful in dealing with anxiety and can lead to a profound experience. This is often this is difficult to describe without sounding slightly mad! However there is scientific and metaphysical evidence in support of this ancient healing practice.

Our sympathetic nervous system is activated by any form of stress be it physical, mental or emotional) and this trips the release of hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol. Blood pressure, blood glucose, immune function and inflammation are immediately affected. The best way to dissipate this is through exercise but though we may be becoming more stressed many of us spend much of our time sitting. Chronic activation by stress on the nervous system and an over supply of circulating hormones create dysfunctions like high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, depression, insomnia, digestive disorders, autoimmune diseases and other maladies resulting from chronic inflammation. At this time, probably more than any other in recent years, we need to focus on lessening our stress levels.

Gong Baths are an efficacious way to do this.

In future posts I will look at the science behind gong baths. In summing up, the gong restores us to our natural wholeness and brings the body into resonance - harmony and balance. This state is vital for health. The most dangerous aspect to our health is stress. It can do untold damage and research is finding that it is the predominant cause of most diseases and illnesses.

Sessions are £15.

There are refreshments afterwards. These are held in another room so social distancing can be maintained. As the evenings draw in and become cooler, the underfloor heating will be put on to ensure that you are warm throughout the session and by late October the sessions will be in candlelight.

FULL: AUTUMN EQUINOX ALL NIGHT GONG PUJA

THIS IS NOW FULL AS MANY PEOPLE DID NOT BOOK ON LINE:

We celebrate the autumn equinox on Friday 24th so that those who are working can benefit for the weekend.

The autumnal equinox marks the first day of autumn and this year, the equinox falls on September 22nd, which is a day when nighttime and daytime are roughly equal.

Astronomically, on the day of the equinox, the Sun crosses the celestial equator and the days start to grow shorter. Spiritually, there is also a lot happening during this time as the ebb and flow of energies shifts with the seasons.

This evening will start with some meditation and drumming before settling down for the night at 11pm. Mats, bolsters, blankets and cushions will be provided but if you have a camping mattress, it may be an idea to bring it to provide extra padding. Extra blankets will be given to those who wish to pad up their mats.

The gong bath finishes at 6.30am on 25th and then we gather around the fire with our own individual intention and can join in the drumming with Tim. A cooked breakfast is provided after this and you will leave fully restored and refreshed and brimming with vim! Those that come every year often say how the time passes very quickly as they fell asleep and the state of relaxation reached, even if it doesn’t include sleep is immensely restorative. You will have more energy than usual on Saturday morning and even go to work if this is required.

The history of sound for healing can be traced back thousands of years to the ancient Egyptians, Australia’s Aborigines and the Greek philosopher Pythagoras, the "Father of Mathematics" who utilised sound to treat mind and body ailments. This is a unique opportunity to bathe in the wide frequencies of the gongs for 7 1/2 hours.

£50.

In addition to this, there is the opportunity to have gong training for 3 hours from 6.30pm -9.30pm and then the option to play for 1/2 hour with Tim at your side during the puja. This will be like 1-2-1 tuition and you will learn basic strokes and how to use mallets, use different areas of the gong to change resonance, use a flumi and much more.

Cost £35. Please bring your own supper and this can be heated up in the kitchen.

Hot drinks and refreshments are provided before the training and the puja.

NEW MOON GONG BATHS

NEW MOON GONG BATHS

THERE ARE TWO SESSIONS EVERY SUNDAY

11am AND 7pm

This is a very auspicious day. New Moons are a time for rebirth. As the moment that the previous lunation (or Moon Cycle) comes to a close and the new Moon Cycle begins, it is a celestial new beginning. New Moons cleanse. Its a time to rid yourself of the themes of the previous lunation and come into the new one with the energies that will be of benefit to you and not the ones that hold you back.

New Moons are also the best time to focus and feel into what you wish to manifest, what is important to you and to set goals for the weeks ahead.

Screenshot 2021-08-04 at 15.36.36.png

With the New Moon and the Lion's Gate Portal aligning this year, this will be an intensely powerful moment for focussing on bringing ideas to life. It has been a strange year and we may feel stuck - not sure what is happening and so put things on hold....an endless wait and see.

If you come to a gong bath this Sunday and wish to write down your intentions its a good way to set time aside and look honestly at what it is that would make your life richer. There will be a fire outside into which we can to throw written intentions and a pinch of Palo Santo to send them on their way.

The new moon will be at its least visible point at 9:50am but its effects will be felt across the day.

Sessions are £15.

There are refreshments afterwards. These are held in another room so social distancing can be maintained. As the evenings draw in and become cooler, the underfloor heating will be put on to ensure that you are warm throughout the session and by late October the sessions will be in candlelight.

MAY-JULY: SUNDAY: GONG BATHS at 11am & 7pm

THERE ARE TWO GONG BATHS EVERY WEEK.

11am and 7pm

STUDIO CLOSED: 24th July -2nd August so no gong baths on 25th July and 1st August

There are regular weekly Sunday Gong Baths that run throughout the year. The Studio closes for 2 weeks from 2th July - 2nd August for gong baths.

We aim to continue to provide an atmosphere of deep relaxation while the gongs work their vibrational magic and bring you into alignment both physically and mentally. As many of you won’t have been for a while we will start with some breathing exercises beforehand to help deepen your experience.

There are two gong baths each Sunday at 11am and 7pm. Please check every week and I will announce in the newsletter and on Facebook if there are changes in the time.

There is much information on gong baths in the earlier event postings and under the gong bath tab but here are some of the many benefits.

Alleviate stress: stressful situations cause our bodies to automatically release stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol as a response. Prolonged exposure to stress causes an imbalance to these hormones, which can lead to high blood pressure, weight gain, depression and insomnia, to name a few. Gong baths can help combat the effects of stress and sound waves may free up emotional blockages in some people. The overall effect is one of wellbeing and deep relaxation.

Enhances bodily functions: The healing impact of gong baths is not only evident mentally; it can physically impact the body by stimulating blood flow, improving breathing and lowering blood pressure.

Gong baths can benefit everybody and are a wonderful way to have a reset. This is especially need at the moment given this last year.

2021 GONG BATHS

THE GONG BATHS ARE POSTPONED IN LINE WITH NEW RESTRICTIONS. THE NEW DATE IS TENTATIVE AND DEPENDENT ON WHETHER WE RETURN TO TIER 2. THIS MAY BE BEFORE MARCH BUT FOR THE MOMENT WE HAVE THIS AS A DATE.

WHEN THEY RESUME: Gong baths will be every Sunday at 4pm and 6pm.

Gong bathing are known to help reduce stress and can shift emotional blockages. Scientific research suggests sound therapy prompts damage human DNA strands to repair themselves. Music therapy is the most mainstream form of sound therapy and been shown to relieve a number of health problems. It is now frequently offered in clinical settings like hospitals and clinics. The sound of the gong reaches the body on a cellular level encouraging integrated healing of the body, mind, and spirit. When the gong is played properly it produces a whole spectrum of harmonics that are based on pressure waves of sound, which vibrate the energy meridians in the body. The sounds of the gong can recalibrate the physical, emotional, and spiritual bodies, and raises the frequency of your electrical magnetic field (the aura) that surrounds your body.

There is more information on the benefits of gong baths in previous gong entry dates and under the Gong Bath tab. Having a gong bath is a relaxing, easy and effective way to drop into yourself and switch off the mind. This in turn helps to recalibrate the body and to see that much of what we find stressful can be managed and need not control our lives. Whilst we may not feel we can plan much in the current climate, we remain in control of how we treat ourselves and how we rest and relax. This is key to healing and to keeping our immune systems strong.

DECEMBER GONG BATHS

DECEMBER GONG BATHS

We are delighted that we can resume going baths again.

Gong baths run every Sunday at 4pm and 6pm

The calander date changes each week but unless stated the gong baths are every Sunday all year through.

December 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th

Much has been written about gong baths on this site and if you scroll down the entries you will get a fuller picture.

Anxiety and concern about both the present and the future are at an all time high - Covid, vaccinations, lock downs, tiers, mental health, jobs, money concerns - the list goes on, and we may feel we have lost control over everything until we remember that we never had control in the first place. We cannot know what each day will bring - that’s not having control! So what to do?

It is often mentioned at Studio Britford gong baths that everything vibrates at a particular frequency. People, places, things all produce a vibration. Each of us has our own unique vibration and this can be influenced by external factors such as stress, trauma, anger, anxiety and environment. When each of these areas is tuned, it creates harmony within the body. Illness manifests when something within is out of tune. This can impact as physical, emotional, mental and spiritual disturbances.

When you come to a gong bath you bring your own dischord within and as you lie on the mat the vibrations wash over like waves.. The gong bath provides resonance for the dissonate vibrations to tune. Our bodies instinctively move towards healing and know with which frequency to sync and thus change the body on a cellular level. Its a little like a universal piano tuner - returning the song (body) to a state of harmony. It is a nurturing and liberating way to spend an hour on a Sunday - it is self care. We need this more so than ever. Gong baths create a sense of relaxation in the body, reducing stress and encouraging an altered state of consciousness. Food for body, mind and spirit.

OCTOBER/NOVEMBER GONG BATHS

ON 1st NOVEMBER WE WILL ADD AN NEW 11am SESSION TO THE 4pm and 6pm SESSIONS.

GONG BATHS AT 11am, 4pm AND 6pm

Each month there is more information on the benefits of sound therapy and if you are interested please look at the September entry.

For hundreds of years medicine and science have always believed that the brain has the power to release chemical substances and reactions which are naturally produced in the body to accelerate healing of the body. Listed below are some of the benefits that gong baths can offer.

Advantages of sound therapy or brainwave entrainment can be classified into three categories; emotional, physical, and mental. These three areas compromises our whole being. Here are some of the benefits of sound therapy:

Emotional Benefits: helps relieve anxiety, boost confidence level, improved mood and increase the ability to express and control emotions.

Physical Benefits of Sound Therapy: helps relieve chronic tiredness, reduce episodes of breath shortness and tightness in the chest and provides a sense of life balance

Mental advantages: helps increase positivity and motivation, increase length of concentration but above all it is deeply relaxing and restorative.

Research has recorded that the lower brainwave states (8-12 Hz) promote healing through stimulation of the body’s immune system. The lower delta of (0.1-4Hz) puts the body in deep healing state through the accelerated growth of hormones. It is possible to reach all these levels during a gong bath.

Sessions are £15.

There are refreshments afterwards. The underfloor heating is now on to ensure that you are warm throughout the session and by late October the sessions will be in candlelight. Please bring your own blanket and cushion for your head as thee are no longer supplied - mats are provided and all are sanitised.

GONG BATHS RESUME!

WELCOME BACK

THE TIMES OF THE SESSIONS HAVE CHANGED FOR THE NEXT FEW WEEKS WHILE WE SEE WHAT SUITS PEPLE BEST.

THERE ARE NOW TWO SESSIONS

3PM AND 5.30PM

THIS ALLOWS TIME TO CHANGE THE MATS AND WIPE DOWN ALL SURFACES AND CLEAN THE FLOOR ETC. BLANKETS, CUSHIONS, EYE MASKS AND BOLSTERS WILL NOT BE PROVIDED FOR THE MOMENT BUT MATS WILL AND THESE WILL BE CHANGED AFTER EACH SESSION SO PLEASE BRING WHAT YOU NEED TO BE COMFORTABLE. NUMBES ARE RESTRICTED SO BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL. THERE IS NO DROP IN AND PREPAYMENT IS REQUIRED.

There is information on the previous gong baths with each entry. As many of you know who come regulary, all you have to do is lie on a mat so you are comfortable, close your eyes and relax. The gongs are played in different ways so there is no fixed rythmn and this means that the brain in unable to follow something predictable and entrainment takes place. Entrainment is the changing of brainwave frequencies.

Alpha brainwave state is achieved very quickly and is followed by the Theta brainwave state. Alpha waves are between 8 and 12 Hz. and include activity such as daydreaming and  imagination and these waves are present in states of relaxation.

Theta waves are brainwave frequencies between 4 and 7 Hz. and occur when we are in dreamingsleep - or REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, and they also occur during meditation.

Theta brainwave frequencies are often where the gongs will take you as you enter a very relaxed meditative state and this is a wonderful state of conciousness to be in for healing to occur.

BOOKING ESSENTIAL. £15/SESSION

Refreshments afterwards if the weather is fine and we can go outside- herb teas, chocolate, fruit, dates and minerl water. Please bring your own water bottle if you would like to take this into the studio.

You are invited to move to the sound of the gong. Tim will begin with a guided moving meditation, followed by a warm up of the body to music. Instruction on how best to receive the sound of the gong will be given before the gong takes over. You can stand and move and there will be places to sit should this be your preference although even when sitting, you will be encouraged to move. We will end with a period of silence and gentle music to integrate the experience.

If you are a regular gong bather, this is a new venture and an opportunity to experience a different way of receiving vibration.

£15 /session.

CANCELLED: MOTHERING SUNDAY: RESTORATIVE YOGA AND GONG BATH

Important Update - this has been cancelled. We will update you on new events as more government advice is given.

**********************************************************************************************************

.The 22nd is Mothering Sunday. This particular Sunday will be different for the others - focusing of deep relaxation and gratitude. We are all born of mothers and we all were children so this is for both women and men to take the late afternoon off and just mother yourself. By this I mean nurture, replenish, restore and relax. Switch off and feel the deep peace of doing absolutely nothing.

These are the dates for the Restorative yoga and gongs sessions for February - April.. They are £20/session.

You do not need to bring anything as all props are here including mats, posters, straps, cushions, blankets and eye masks. Refreshments afterwards. The sessions are now held in candlelight.

9th FEBRUARY, 8th MARCH, 22nd MARCH (MOTHERING SUNDAY)

5th APRIL, 19th APRIL

Held twice a month these extended sessions enhance the experience of the gong bath by fully preparing the body to deeply relax. The session begins with restorative yoga and is followed by a short guided meditation. These extended sessions are between the regular gong baths that are also held twice a month. No experience of yoga is necessary as the aim is deep relaxation and each asana/pose is fully supported by the bolster.

Benefits of restorative yoga:

  1. Restorative yoga helps us cultivate the skill of conscious relaxation. Restorative yoga uses long-held, supported resting poses to create the conditions for us to cultivate the skill of conscious relaxation and most importantly to release unnecessary habitual tension in the body and mind.

  2. Restorative yoga helps us discover where we are holding tension. Willingness to look at how and where we are holding tension, and to relax our body on the ground, allowing the breath to come in more, so the tension that we find can be softened or less gripping.

  3. Restorative yoga creates the conditions for the relaxation response to kick in. Conscious breathing and the quietness of restorative yoga help us elicit the relaxation response, a neurological response that tells us we are safe, pulls us out of "flight or fight" mode, and initiates the body's self-healing process. We switch over from worrying about staying "safe" to fostering the longevity systems of longterm health, including digestion, elimination, reproduction, growth and repair, and immunity.

  4. Restorative yoga helps us face what we are avoiding about ourselves. We tend to want feel productive and in control. But our habit of running around, conquering our to-do lists, and fuelling ourselves with coffee and ambition can often be a way we avoid deep discomforts and unwelcome feelings in the body and mind. The practice helps us care for the whole of ourselves in a way we are not used to.
